I just started running a couple of days ago trying to lose some weight before summer ends. I go in the morning when i wake up and I alternate everyday between a 35 min jog to an interval jog where i do 5 min. warm-up,1minute sprint,1minute light jog (repeatedly done for 20 min i.e1min sprint-1min jog),then a 5min light jog/cool down. I run everyday and was wondering if this pattern and cardio workout maximize on weightloss.Cardio Help/ Advice?
Yes, the interval training is very good. It's called HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), and it burns fat 9 times more effectively than any other cardio.
I would recommend instead of a 1 minute sprint and 1 minute light jog you do a 30 second sprint, and 30 second light jog. You should be going at maximum intensity during the sprints and at a moderate pace during the jog. This will bring the best results.
Don't alternate with a 35 minute jog, that is not nearly as good as interval-training, and jogging has the potential to burn muscle. HIIT is the only cardio that does not burn muscle in the process. Also, due to its intensity, HIIT should only be done 3 times a week, non-consecutively.
You can also reduce the span of doing HIIT to 15 minutes due to its intensity, most people do it for only 12-15 minutes, but if 35 is fine for you, that's fine. Although, if you are going at maximum intensity during sprints that will prove very difficult.
If you want to lose weight make sure your diet is also clean, and avoid junk/fast food, and avoid processed food. Make sure you are consuming a low-calorie diet.
Best of luck!
