i am going to have a filling on saturday, but its been a while since ive had one..do they numb your mouth..???
in your opinion is a filling or extraction worse?Help...advice?
Yes they numb your mouth. Not sure which would be worse but I probably would say extraction.Help...advice?
idk i think they still numb ur mouth but im not sure...
For a filling and an extraction they will give you injections to numb you beforehand. I do know someone who doesn't have this and I think they are insane.
Extractions don't hurt at the time but they feel horrible when it's being done. The pain is a lot worse the evening that you have it done, but a filling should only leave you feeling a little sore for the evening.
If it's a root canal that's a different matter and then it might well be cheaper just to pull the tooth out.
If your getting regular filling than they do not numb your mouth; thats done only for extraction due to extreme pain. When getting regular filling, it only hurts a little. No need to worry .
I have to remind you that the reason for your visit is not to have a comparison of the procedure, but to get rid of a problem.
In a good dentist's hand none of the procedures is bad. They numb you and after feeling the initial pinprick, you feel the push and pul but not the pain.
If you need a tooth extraction, trya DMD, or a dental surgeon.... I got one of my teeth extracted, and I wanted to go back for more.....
yes they numb your mouth and extraction is way worse (well for me it is)
I HATE fillings. I had about seven last year from a combination of a poor dentist previously and my own neglect.
I had one tooth pulled a few years back and it was nowhere near as bad as I expected.
In respect of the actual procedure the extraction was a lot more bearable but in the long run I would take the filling any day. When you start having teeth removed it affects the teeth and gums around the area of extraction. My father has sagging cheeks now from having his back teeth out, as there is no support now for that area of his face!
To answer your first question though, I had a replacement filling on Tuesday and got away without anaesthesia. It depends how big the cavity is but most times you do need the injection.
yes they numb your mouth and an extraction is way worse.
They will numb the area if the filling is deep enough. The majority of the time, they will numb, which is best. Don't look at it as what's worse; neither has to be that unpleasant. They probably take about the same amount of time to do - in some cases a filling might take longer. Try not to have an extraction unless there's no other alternative.
Extraction is definitely worse. I had 4 teeth taken out for spacing when I was younger. Give me a filling any day. They will numb your mouth so don't worry. It will be fine. Good Luck
Extraction is definitely worse. Yes they do numb your mouth
If your dentists asks do you want numbing?
Ask if you need it? If he recommends it say yes
Most of my fillings have been done with out, if the drill doesn't actually go into the pulp cavity where the nerve is there is little benefit in having the numbing you still feel the vibrations and grinding. An experienced dentist will know from his probe if it will go that deep, but with digital x-rays it is so quick to look they don't need to trust their feel anymore.
I've had one filling when I should have been numbed and said no I've never needed it before, stopped hurting as soon as the filling was in but I didn't go back to a dentist for 7 years.
an extraction is way worse!
they will numb your mouth if you want, it's optional, some people prefer the pain to being numb for several hours.
The dentist will numb your mouth, the needle will be abit uncomfortable but not painful. The filling will not hurt you. The numbness will last for a couple of hours and you may feel like your lips are swollen but this is just a sensation. You will be fine
p.s extraction is not painful either - you will be out of that chair before you know it
