If he's Army, you'd need the number for the FRG leader (family readiness group).

The folks there have a wealth of information, live chat, and message boards for boot camp recruits' and deployed Marines' famliies and friends. You won't believe the support you'll get from them.
I don't know of any similar service for other branches of the military.
